EZ Grader: Easy Grading Calculator for Teachers
The EZ grader turns the number of questions on a test into a full grading chart: every number wrong, its percent and its letter. Type the number of questions, then read off each student’s grade, print the chart or show it on a big screen.

How does the EZ grader chart work?
Percent = (total − number wrong) ÷ total × 100, for every number wrong from 0 to the total (in steps of 1, or 0.5 with half points).
Worked example. A 20-question test. Each question is worth 100 ÷ 20 = 5 percentage points.
0 wrong is 100%. 1 wrong is (20 − 1) ÷ 20 × 100 = 95%. 3 wrong is 85%, a B on the plus/minus scale. With half points, 2.5 wrong is 87.5%, a B+.
Why use a grading chart?
Grading thirty tests with a calculator means thirty sums and thirty chances to slip. A chart does the sums once: count what each student got wrong, find that number, and copy the percent and letter. Printed charts work without a phone or a laptop, and the same chart works for every class that takes the test.
What about tests with different point values?
Type the total points instead of the number of questions, and read “points lost” where the chart says “wrong”. A 50-point test with 4 points lost is 92%. For one student at a time, the test grade calculator does the same sum.
Questions about the EZ grader
How do I use the EZ grader?
Type the number of questions (or points) on the test. The chart lists every number wrong with its percent and letter grade. Find the number a student got wrong, read across, and you have the grade. Type a number in “Look up” to see one score large.
How does the EZ grader work out each score?
Percent = (total − number wrong) ÷ total × 100. On a 20-question test, 3 wrong is (20 − 3) ÷ 20 × 100 = 85%. The chart rounds to the decimals you choose, and the letter follows the percent as printed.
Can I use half points?
Yes. Tick “Half points” and the chart goes up in steps of 0.5: 1.5 wrong, 2 wrong, 2.5 wrong and so on. This is useful when you give half credit for an answer.
Can I print the grading chart?
Yes. Press “Print chart”. The printout holds only the chart, with no menus and no ads, laid out in columns to fit on one page for most tests.
What is big-screen mode for?
Showing the chart on a classroom screen or using it beside a stack of papers. It hides everything but the chart and the lookup, in large type, with no ads. Press “Exit big screen” or Esc to go back.
Can I use my school’s grading scale?
Yes. Open “Grading scale” to choose the 10-point, 7-point or plus/minus scale, change any cut-off, and choose whether 89.5 rounds up to 90.
